9A Unit 2 Traditional skills

Teaching objectives  

Language objectives:Use the simple past tense and the simple present tense to describe a person and a traditional skill.Ability objectives:1.      Have the ability of searching information on the Internet and make full use of it to write articles.2.      develop the writing ability through analyzing common mistakes.Emotion objective:Build up correct values on Chinese traditions and cultures.

Pre-task     Provide some pictures about different kinds of Chinese traditional skills and ask Sts. what they are.    Look at the pictures and guess what kind of skills the pictures are showing.   Do a revision and elicit the topic.    

While-task    1.      Introduce a dough sculptor—Mr. Chen to the Sts.2.      Set the task of reading the first paragraph about him.3.      Ask the Sts. to complete the personal information about Mr. Chen.     1.      Read the first paragraph aloud.2.      Find some specific information about Mr. Chen on iPad. Pay attention to adjectives.3.      Finish the exercise and have the awareness of using passive voice, conjunctions, attributive clause, adverbial clause to add variety.   1.      Enable Sts to know how to describe a person2.      Enable Sts to find specific info. and use “to do” to write their own articles.  

4.      Ask Sts. focus on the use of different sentence patterns in Para. 2 through the exercises of combining sentences and rewriting sentences.5.      Set the task of arranging sentence order of Para. 3 and finding adverbs.6.      Summarize the article briefly and switch to the second part of the lesson.   4.      Put sentences in Para. 3 into the correct order. Tell the reason. 5.      Find adverbs in Para.4 which can beautify the sentences and make them more accurate.    3.        Cultivate Sts’ writing ability by using passive voice, conjunctions, attributive clause and adverbial phrase etc.  

1.      Play a short movie about Beijing Opera.2.      Ask Sts. to surf the Internet and have a brainstorm to collect useful information.3.      Write a paragraph in their own words.   1.      Watch a short movie about Beijing Opera.2.      Use iPad to search information and have a brainstorm to collect it.3.      Write the article in Sts’ own words.   1.      Use the new teaching method—iPad.2.      Develop Sts’ writing ability.  

Post-task   1.      Ask each group member to send the article to Edmodo and recommend the best version. 2.      Ask Sts. to comment on their partners’ work and correct mistakes.3.      Put 4 paragraphs together and show to the whole class.    1.      Recommend the best version through group discussion.2.      Comment on Sts’ articles and correct mistakes with the T’s help.    1.         Learn to evaluate and appreciate others’ work.2.         Avoid common mistakes by further analysis.  

Assign homework   1. Comment on at least two articles on Edmodo.2. Write a short article about the traditional skill of friends and relatives.     1.      Guide Sts. to think more. 2.      Consolidate and practise writing.
